Today I want write about the painting models.
The most basic technique is using soft pastels and acrylics. For me pastels are not very comfortable, because of the because of the dust that arises when we create the model. Also when we use pastels we have to remember to protect every layer of them wih the varnish.
My favourite technique are acrylics with brushes.
For few years I'm using this technique, because it's a great way to present all of the texture of horse's hairs and details.
1. Choosing the model
Before we start painting we should choose the model which will be our "victim".
2. Remove the paint
Because of the natural human tallow we should alwys use plastic gloves, because when the model has traces of tallow or fat it's impossible to apply the paint.
So the second step is to remove the old paint of the model. And for this we can use nails remover, which is avaiable in almost every drugstore.
3. Washing
After this we have to carefully wash our model with water and... dish soap. Yes, dish soap it's very easy to buy, it's cheap and it's great to remove the traces of fat. Of course, we can use other products, but I reccomend this one, because of its availability.
After washing we should put our model to dry out.
After some time our sculpture should be dry and we can start working on it. And this is the moment when we can use the model only when we wear gloves.
4. Base
When the model is dry we can use the base. The colour of the base should be uniform and should match to the coat color. The bes one is of corse white, but when we want to paint the chestnut horse we can of course use the brown one.
Base we can opply with brushes, airbrush or we can buy the base color for acryics in the store.
5. Shading
Shading with brushes is not very easy and it's very important to have good reference photos. Then we using brushes we have to rememeber that the gradient will be smooth only when we will apply very gentle layer of paint. We have to also remeber that our paint have to be watered down.
6. Finishing
The hole process of painting it's actualy shading and adding new layers. After the "shading process" we can finally start finishing our model adding the details, like painting eyes and white marking on he head the rest of the body. For eyes and hoves it's important to use small and thin brush.
7. Varnish
When we finish with our model we should wait one or two days and give him time to rest. After this we can use varnish to protect our painting.
The using of varnish depends of the working, sometimes we have to use varnish few times during the process, sometimes only at the finish.
It's also important to remember thet we can spray models only outdoor and only when it's not raining. The varnish is very sensitive to atmospheric conditions.
After varnish we have to give our model one day of rest to be sure that is protected.
It's all for now,
tahnk you
